Our team cares deeply about helping patients, and we're looking for someone invigorated by that too. Since 2015, Healthvana has helped millions of people, and our work has been featured at the White House (where we presented our AI work), on Capitol Hill, and at Stanford University, published in medical journals, and covered in media ranging from the NY Times to Fox News.
We're on a mission to help end HIV, and we're a leader in doing so in the United States. Our platform helps patients engage in their healthcare either via partner healthcare providers in-person or via telehealth. Through our telehealth One-for-One program, every new insured patient means we help an uninsured person get access to free care. We launched this less than a year ago and are already helping patients in 50 states!
Our care ecosystem spans digital patient intake, a patient portal, a provider portal, telehealth communications, prescription ordering and management, and more – and we use AI tools throughout our care delivery, from conversational AI that helps patients stay on track to the coding tools our engineering team uses every day.
We don't care about where you worked before or where you went to school. We care about the quality of your work, your ability to learn fast, being a great colleague, and your desire to have your efforts really impact lives.
The Role
We're hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join a small, experienced engineering team. This is a hands-on IC role. Your typical week will include writing code (and tests), reviewing others' code and helping them make it better, improving our review processes and tooling, and building the APIs and business logic that power our telehealth platform.
We use Django and Django REST Framework to provide foundational APIs and business logic, and React and Next.js on the client side. You'll primarily work on the backend, but we're looking for engineers who are comfortable working across the full stack as the lines between frontend and backend continue to blur; especially as AI coding tools make it increasingly practical to contribute outside your core specialty.
AI powered developer workflows mean there's a lot of code to review. We need engineers who can help out; not just by reviewing more code, but by raising the quality bar so there's less to catch, and by improving the processes and tooling we use to review. You'll work with significant autonomy while collaborating closely with a tight-knit team that includes our Principal Engineer, Chief Architect, Senior Engineering Manager, and Technical Project Manager.
Our Hiring Process
We respect your time. The entire process takes two to three weeks, involves four to five touchpoints, and asks for no more than six hours of your time total.
1. Application review. We read applications ourselves; no AI resume screening. We're looking for evidence of real experience, not keyword matches.
2. Introductory call (30 min). A conversation with our Senior Engineering Manager. We'll talk about the role, the team, and your background. This is as much for you to evaluate us as the other way around. Come with questions.
3. Take-home project. We’ll provide you with a set of requirements, and ask you to create a Python/Django/DRF project and push it to a GitHub repo for us to review once completed.
4. Technical conversation (60 min). A deeper discussion with members of our engineering team about your experience, how you approach problems, and how you think about architecture and code quality. We'll talk through your take home project, real scenarios relevant to our stack, and the challenges we're solving. No gotcha questions, no whiteboard algorithms.
5. Live coding session (60 min). A practical, pair-programming-style session adding a feature to your take-home project. You're welcome to use the AI coding tools you'd use on the job — we want to see how you actually work, including how you use AI, when you don't, and how you evaluate what it produces. We'll also include a code review exercise where you review a pull request and walk us through your feedback.
6. Final conversation (30 min). A call with our VP of Engineering to talk about the mission, team culture, and your questions about Healthvana. If there are things that matter to you about where you work, how decisions get made, what the pace feels like, where the company is headed, this is the place to ask.
We aim to have an offer decision within a few business days of the final conversation.
Healthvana is an equal opportunity employer. We believe the strongest teams bring a wide range of experiences and perspectives to the work.
