Pros

compensation is good for the area

Cons

Before you take a job here, ask very very detailed questions, and ask to speak to other people on the team you are applying to. As someone who has had a career working at high-functioning organizations, I can honestly say that just about every aspect of working at Sonosite was a con. I spent my time there with my jaw dropped at the unbelievable level of disfunction, incompetence, and lack of any sort of systems, plans, or path forward. First, understand that FUJIFILM is a top down org and does continual improvement by fault finding and assigning actions with zero support on how to achieve them. So if continual improvement is you game, please understand that this organization will NOT allow you to utilize Lean or any other logical method of improvement. You will be subject to audits and prescriptive actions that are not usually reasonable, achievable, measurable, or even value added. Also realize that Fujifilm inflates titles like no business I've ever witnessed. VP's do the job of managers. Directors do the jobs of supervisors or assistants. Managers do the jobs of leads. So be aware that you will NOT have the power or support that you expect based on your title. Aslo be aware that Fujifilm has a leadership disease. They know only top down leadership, and have zero capacity to teach on to lead. The leadership in my group was 0% comptent at leading, and sadly only about 25% competent at doing MY job, let alone theirs (which was to manage) Understand that professional expectation at Sonosite are right out the window. Don't be surprised to hear and see VP's, Director's, and Managers swearing, whining, pushing off work, refusing to change, etc etc etc. If you understand Lean or manufacturing excellence, don't expect the production leadership team, or manufacturing engineering team to either understand or want to understand alternatives to the way it's done at Sonosite. And don't be surprised if a VP or Director looks you in the eyes and says something that completely goes against everything you've come to understand being true in manufacturing. And don't be surprised when they suggest you don't know what you are talking about or that your old company used to fudge their numbers if they claimed to be any better than sonosite. DIG Deep before you take a position with this company. It might work for you, but if you are at all involved in improvement, you will undoubtedly be moving backwards.

Pros

Benefits Package and Workspace is better than average. Very nice open office.

Cons

The WORST middle management and supervisor micromanagement ever experienced. No trust to follow through to completion without constant babysitting and condescending comments and emails. Over the top expectations for hours worked set by those that work up to 16 hours per day (including weekends, paid holidays and late into the night) schedules without batting an eye, and cannot possibly be met by all who have other obligations. Those that don't are not favored or rewarded equally. This is the norm. Obvious favoritism in many groups leading to unfair treatment of those not seen as burning the candle at both ends. Those not choosing to live at work are "not as reliable, not team oriented and not thinking of the company first". HR is almost useless as they are very good friends with most middle and upper managers and go so far as to spend social time with many of them regularly, which makes a very non neutral party for employees needing to get guidance re: issues and concerns. Many hardworking people have been pushed out and not listened to with valid complaints and concerns about leadership and harmful styles that have left deep scars on many teams throughout the company. Alot of turnover. So many bosses, cannot possibly keep track. Bully type scare tactics (mgmnt)/ sideways backhanded comments used to intimidate and push down those that do speak up or have something to say. Obvious tension and underlying issues between supervisors/ management personnel, which trickles down daily to general staff and makes for a very uncomfortable day to day environment. Those who have worked here 5 to 10 years +, still no pay increases or rewards after so much tenure, and many reasons given as to why there is no money. Seems to be that in order to succeed, you need to behave like a school aged child and employ tactics such as backstabbing and the like. This behavior is not discouraged in many groups and runs rampant. At times it's exhausting. It ceases to get better now that Fuji has taken over. We are all just a number and can be replaced at any time

Pay Your People Better

Pros

Benefits are better than average. Many insurance types, good 401k contribution/match. Onsite gym and cafeteria.

Cons

"Cost of living" increases or LESS even with stellar performance reviews. Year after year. No bonus opportunities. Told to work more hours to make more money. Told there's no money to give (same speech every year and and I'm sorry). Look around. Rent and mortgages are 2250 to 3000+ per month or more, and you're giving long term, hard working people who have stayed with you, 2 to 3%? Come on. Not even fifty cents or a dollar? What a shame. How does that keep up for working families/people trying to get ahead financially? Good reviews equal no good pay bump?
