Project Manager

How best do I answer this interview question: How would you approach someone whose workflow wasn't meeting expectations?

I would first ask them if there's anything that is stopping/interfering with meeting the expextations. Sometimes people don't have the right tools or are struggling to prioritize or struggling with staying organized. I would first have a conversation about what the expectations are, then ask questions about what their workflow is and generally listen actively and attentively to see if there's something impeding them

I agree with the above answer. I learned from my supervisors. 1) consider who the employee is. you may want to approach this differently depending on your employee. not everyone takes criticism the same. 2) in general, they need to know and you need what you need, so I would be blunt. "hey ____. I put this report. it should say this. but your says that. we can continue with that, and need to have this. is there a reason why you have that? ... well I need you to be sure you do this, that, and this. ok? is there anything I or someone else can help you with? ... ok I expect to see that by this date. thank you." be open, encouraging, available, but stern with what you need. if progress is not met then consider some kind of growth plan before more extreme consequences.
