Interview
For this edition of Safe Classrooms, I revisited one of my favorite teacher books called Nonviolent Communication by psychologist Marshall Rosenberg. It’s sold over 1 million copies, so maybe you’ve heard about it or read it yourself. I think this book can provide some strategies for dealing with internal and interpersonal conflict and may be worth reading and sharing with others in your life.
The course I am applying for is an intro statistics class. My professor interviewed me for questions like why I want to be a TA for his class and what will I do to help students learn more.
I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at University of Rochester (Rochester, NY) in Apr 2014

The process to apply to be a math TA was really straightforward. You submit a paper application with recommendation from a faculty member, then they (probably) schedule you for an interview within a week of the application deadline. After the interview, I heard back within a few weeks with what course they would like me to TA for, out of the ones I had requested.
