Mandarin interpreter - Over the Phone Mandarin Medical Interpreter LanguageLine Solutions Employee Review

Pros

working from home; having the opportunities to help bridge the language barrier between limited English persons and the health care professionals

Cons

The company lowers your pay rate after two months. The new mandatory flat rate will cut 25% of your hourly rate. In the meantime the calls are non-stop and you feel exhausted after 6-hour shift. Some clients speak so fast that you have a very hard time writing down exactly what they've said. If you ask them to slow down too often, you not only risk making the client discontent with your skills but also giving the senior interpreter who monitors you all the time a chance to harshly critique you.

Thank you for your 5-star review and for the more than one year you have been part of our team in Monterey. We are glad to hear that you feel supported by a well-organized company, as we strive to provide a structured and professional environment for our interpreters. We also appreciate your perspective on same-day assignments; flexibility is often part of the meaningful work we do to support clients when they need language access most. Thank you for the important role you play in delivering quality interpretation services.

Pros

You can work remotely and they provide the equipment.

Cons

Bad management, no cost of living raises or performance based raises. They placed multiple people on PIPs and gave everyone low scores on performance reviews due to the company not hitting revenue goals. They used this as a reason to let people go and hire abroad. Employee moral is low and people either keep quitting or being “let go”.
