Pros

I’m really trying to think of any, and I’m having a hard time. I guess the only thing that comes to mind is that it is a relatively stable job regardless of the department you’re in. If you love soul sucking corporate work then you’ll love this place.

Cons

The company is the most uptight and conservative place I’ve ever worked for or heard of. You can’t get anything done without getting approvals from so many different people and their boss’ boss etc. The older generation is so stuck in their ways at this company, which is the vast majority of the employees. This is why it’s near impossible for any positive change to happen here and almost every aspect of this company is outdated. The pay is mediocre at best and the PTO is a joke. You start out with 2 weeks (10 days) of vacation time and don’t get an increase to 3 weeks until you’ve been with the company for 5 years! The work life balance feels non existent. The health insurance isn’t bad but it’s not great, especially given the fact that they’re an insurance company. The dress code is very strict as well. No jeans ever, unless you pay $5 for some fundraiser they do a few times a year. What a treat, you get to wear jeans to work if you buy it!Wow! The technology is extremely outdated. IT is the biggest department in the company but yet they can’t seem to get with the times. If you’re coming from a place that uses best practices and industry standards you will have to throw that all out the window and be prepared for no one to know what they’re doing and start using outdated methods and technology. The company is too big for its own good. When you have to seek approvals from so many different people to get anything done, you end up just feeling annoyed and defeated trying to do your job. It feels like they have so many unnecessary positions and you’re not sure why so many people have to be involved in what should be a simple process or project. The actual headquarter’s interior is extremely outdated and most of the office furniture is from the 80s. The most drab and depressing looking workplace you can imagine. They’re trying to update different floors with new furniture and construction but I’ve heard nothing but complaints about making the cubes and workspaces smaller and more cramped with little to no privacy. So the “improvements” they’re trying to make aren’t even improvements. Overall there is just an overwhelming feeling of uptightness that makes you feel on edge all the time. There is a way to be professional yet progressive and keeping up with positive change in the workplace. I’ve heard that they’re having a hard time getting younger generations to work at CIC - no wonder! A company that is stuck in the past isn’t going to be attractive to anyone younger than 40. For being such a big company, they can do so much better in every single way, but they choose to stay in the past and are extremely resistant to change. Just get ready to work for the most depressing and soul sucking company if you’re hired. I would never recommend anyone work here if you want to feel any sense of fulfillment or happiness in your work.

Pros

They have truly removed all the pros.

Cons

First off, the company seems to be attempting to drown out the bad reviews they received when they made the horrible decision to return to office. As if the return to office wasn’t restrictive enough, now that we are back in office they have added further restrictions, thus making work life balance non existent. I have now been told we are unable to work from home to accommodate any appointments, and we are being asked to no longer make appointments unless it is on our designated work from home day, no flexibility allotted, no switching your work from home day (which is chosen by management, we get no say.) Additionally, they still pay SIGNIFICANTLY lower than literally any other insurance company you’ll find, on top of having less flexibility and work life balance. They’re quickly hemorrhaging all their tenured employees and new talent isn’t staying long after seeing past the smoke and mirrors. Save yourself, apply at any other insurance company. The new ceo himself said “if you don’t like it, there’s the door”, I’m on my way out, don’t you worry Steve!
